I am definitely not a professional but am happy with my end product. Here are the items and basic steps that I used:
1 Vintage Samsonite Suitcase
4 chair/table legs (a few varieties found at Home Depot, I used these and these)
Spray paint (optional)
4 large screws and fitted bolts
A few yards of an outdoor fabric (mine found at Joann's)
5 heavy duty buttons, if tufting is desired, I did it on the top half only (also found at Joann's)
Large needle and thread
1 firm pillow (for the upper cushion)
High density foam (for the bottom cushion)
1" thick plywood, cut in a the shape/size of the top and bottom halves of the suitcase (to use as the upholstery backing)
Staple gun
My first stop was eBay to purchase the suitcase, which probably wasn't the best idea because thrift stores are most likely cheaper, but I found the perfect brown leather vintage Samsonite.
After I collected the rest of the necessary items, I was ready to begin.
**Note: This project took a good weekend to complete for me, I'm easily distracted, but regardless it will most likely take some time
I Started with the legs since the spray paint needs time to dry...
Make sure if you do tuft your cushion you do it prior to stapling the fabric to the wood backing (yes I have made this mistake before)...

Prior to fitting the bottom cushion drill 4 holes in the suitcase and attach the legs using the large screws and bolts.
legs bolted into the bottom |
Once that's done...voila I have a new chair!
